Relieved Rotor Group

The relieved rotor group option is required for fluid viscosities of 10,000 SSU (2,150 cPs) and above.  Relieving the rotor group entails machining each pumping member (the rotor, piston, and shuttle) a few thousandths of an inch smaller than standard, thus increasing the clearances between these members.  Standard Relieving (for viscosities from 10,000 SSU to 100,000 SSU) ranges from machining approximately 0.004” per part for Series 20 pumps to 0.009” per part for Series 200 and 220 pumps.  Special Relieving (for viscosities above 100,000 SSU) ranges from machining approximately 0.006” for Series 20 pumps to 0.022” for Series 200 and 220 pumps.

Rotation

All Tri-Rotor pumps are available with either clockwise (CW) or counter clockwise (CCW) rotation, when viewed from the shaft end of the pump.  This allows the customer to select the best Tri-Rotor pump for installation based on the design of their piping system.

Sanitary Preparation

Tri-Rotor offers their pumps to be sanitized at the factory prior to shipment for food related applications.  All pump parts are soaked and thoroughly washed with a sanitizer specially designed for food dispensing equipment.  The parts are then allowed to air dry before assembly.  The pump is performance tested on clean vegetable oil, after which the pump is emptied and the ports are sealed.

Shaft Length Options

Tri-Rotor offers multiple pump shaft lengths to accommodate different mounting and drive application needs.  These shaft lengths are differentiated from each other by letter (or letters) and are available for every pump series.  Please refer to shaft length conversion chart for more details.
  • “M” Shaft – standard shaft length for all Tri-Rotor pumps
  • “T” or “TS” Shaft – shaft length for truck-mounted pumps
  • “BD” Shaft – typical shaft length for belt-driven pumps
  • “MO” Shaft – typical shaft length for applications requiring a longer shaft length and requires an outboard bearing support
  • “OSBD” or “OSMO” – “Old Style” (Obsolete) versions of the BD and MO shafts
Tri-Rotor also offers custom length shafts as required for the application at no additional cost.

Shaft Lubrication

Shaft Seal Options

Standard Packing (PTFE Impregnated)

A proprietary braided blend of yarns uniformly treated with PTFE throughout.  This standard packing with its’ light lubricant provides for good sealing, resistance to chemical attack, and long life.
  • Temperature range       to 550 °F (288 °C)
  • pH range                       3 to 12

Teflon Packing

Pure PTFE filament braided yarn packing containing a proprietary lubricant that complies with FDA regulations.
  • Temperature range       to 500 °F (260 °C)
  • pH range                       0 to 14

Heat Packing

High performance braided proprietary carbon yarn packing.  Has high thermal conductivity characteristics and excellent lubricity.
  • Temperature range       to 650 °F (345 °C)
  • pH range                       0 to 14

Zero-Leak #3 Packing (Beaded)

A fluorocarbon wetted paste stuffing box sealant compound originally developed for the Pulp & Paper industry provides for virtually leak-free operation.  Paste contains lead beads which assist pump to run cooler, act as a lubricant, and contribute to longer life.
  • Temperature range       -40 °F to 500 °F (-40 °C to 260 °C)
  • pH range                       1 to 14

Zero-Leak #30 Packing (Non-Beaded)

A synthetic lead-free wetted fibrous paste stuffing box sealant compound developed for pulp, paper, and food industries for virtually leak-free operation.  Product is anti-corrosive, chemically inactive, and does not dry out or harden.
  • Temperature range       -40 °F to 500 °F (-40 °C to 260 °C)
  • pH range                       1 to 14

Mechanical Seals

  • Type 1 Mechanical Seal – Viton        -40 °F to 300 °F (-40 °C to 150 °C)
  • Type 1 Mechanical Seal – Buna        10 °F to 180 °F (-10 °C to 80 °C)
  • Type 9 Mechanical Seal – PTFE        to 320 °F (160 °C)
  • Type 68 Mechanical Seal – Viton       -40 °F to 300 °F (-40 °C to 150 °C)
